1970 BKPE CUTLASS 442 XTREME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q:

Why do restore the 1970 Cutlass bodies instead of using new ones?

A:

At the present time there is no one making brand new bodies for the 1968-1972 Oldmobile Cutlass. But do not concern yourself with the quality. We only choose the finest original bodies on the market and then ensure that any suspect metal, which is exposed during an acid bath, is replaced with the finest restoration metal on the market. We stake our reputation on our Cutlass bodies being better than those that left Oldsmobile some 40+ years ago. But more than that, we guarantee it with the only bumper-to-bumper warranty in the business.

Q:

Can I order my 442 Xtreme in colors other than what was originally available in 1970?

A:

Unfortunately, no. In the 442 Xtreme, we set out to recreate a Cutlass that was identical to the original on the inside and out. This necessarily means that we are limited in our color pallet.

Q:

If originality was a criterion in designing the 442 Xtreme, why do you offer it with 18" wheels when this was not offered in 1970?

A:

To be sure, the 1970 Cutlass was only equipped with either 14 or 15 inch wheels, no matter which of the many wheel options were chosen. This caused us much consternation over what wheels and tires we would offer. In the end, we chose the bigger wheels due to the unavailability of performance tires that matched the smaller diameter wheel and the high performance of our powertrain.

We note that, unlike the original wheels, which had a chrome colored trim ring around the outer lip of the wheel to enhance the beauty of the wheel, the wheels we have chosen have had the outer lip itself chromed. Thus this wheel differs significantly from its factory counterpart.

Q:

Why do you not provide an entertainment system as standard equipment?

A:

Original AM/FM stereo receivers are rare and expensive. Thus, we wanted to give our clients the opportunity to choose an original looking system or put that same money toward the hidden entertainment system by Sony.

Q:

Where do you put the Sony hidden entertainment system?

A:

The Sony Xplode receiver goes into the glove box, the 2-way speakers are mounted under the dash, the subwoofer is hidden in the trunk and the rear speakers and amplifier are cleverly hidden below the rear package shelf.

Q:

If I do not want the 442 W30, but would prefer a Cutlass S W-31 or a 1971 or 1972 version of these same cars, would you build them for me?

A:

Yes, but these cars have not been designed or engineered by us yet. Therefore, we would be obligated to charge the interested customer a premium to cover the additional expense of ensuring that these other vehicles can meet our standards for appearance, performance and quality. Simply let your PSR know during your initial telephone conversation that you wish to order either a Cutlass S W-31 and/or 1971 or 1972 Cutlass as the foundation for your 442 Xtreme.
