1969 BKPE FIREBIRD XTREME FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q:

Is the 1969 Firebird Xtreme a restored Firebird or a brand new vehicle?

A:

Aside from a handful of parts, which are only available as quality used parts, the 1969 BKPE Firebird Xtreme is a brand new automobile. It is partly for this reason, and partly because of the quality of our builds, that we can offer the only bumper-to-bumper warranty in the business.

Q:

Why do you use replacement bodies instead of original 1969 Firebird bodies?

A:

Simply put, it is cost, time and quality. Original 1969 Firebird bodies are over 40 years old, which means four decades of fatigue, corrosion and abuse. To restore such a body is time consuming and expensive, needlessly delaying delivery of our vehicles to our customers and increasing the price of our product. In addition, replacement bodies are made with modern techniques and quality controls. Comparing an original body to a replacement body makes it clear that the replacement body offers a superior platform from which we build all of our Firebirds.

Q:

Can I order my Firebird Xtreme in colors other than what was originally available in 1969?

A:

Unfortunately, no. In the Firebird Xtreme, we set out to recreate a Firebird that was identical to the original on the inside and out. This necessarily means that we are limited in our color pallet.

Q:

If originality was a criterion in designing the Firebird Xtreme, why do you offer it with 16" wheels when this was not offered in 1969?

A:

To be sure, the 1969 Firebird was only equipped with either 14 or 15 inch wheels, no matter which of the many wheel options were chosen. This caused us much consternation over what wheels and tires we would offer. In the end, we chose the bigger wheels due to the unavailability of performance tires that matched the smaller diameter wheel and the high performance of our power train.

We note that, unlike the original wheels, which had a chrome colored trim ring around the outer lip of the wheel to enhance the beauty of the wheel, the wheels we have chosen have had the outer lip itself chromed. Thus this wheel differs significantly from its factory counterpart.

Q:

Why do you not provide an entertainment system as standard equipment?

A:

Original-style AM/FM stereo receivers are rare and expensive. Thus, we wanted to give our clients the opportunity to choose an original looking system or put that same money toward the hidden entertainment system by Sony.

Q:

Where do you put the entertainment system if you are installing an original AM/FM stereo radio in the dash?

A:

The Sony Xplode receiver goes into the glove box, the 2-way speakers are mounted under the dash, the subwoofer is hidden in the trunk and the rear speakers and amplifier are cleverly hidden below the rear package shelf.

Q:

Are the ram air scoops functional on either the Firebird Xtreme with the 400 Ram Air III or Trans Am appearance package?

A:

Yes as to the Trans Am and no as to the 400 Ram Air III. The engines produced in 1969 had their intake on top of the engine, which was more or less under the center of the hood. On the 400 Ram Air III, this allowed the ambient air to be forced though the inlets, which were also on the center of the hood, and into the engine, adding considerable power to the vehicle. However, because the LS3 has its intake on the front of the engine, we would have to bend the air 180 degrees to get into the engine. It is our opinion that any gains results from the ram air effect would be lost in forcing the air to turn 180 degrees. This is not true for the Trans Am, which has its inlets in the front of the hood. Therefore, the Trans Am does offer a true ram air effect into the LS3.

Q:

Can I get you to build me a Firebird Xtreme based on either a 1967 or 1968 Firebird?

A:

Absolutely, though pricing would have to be determined at a time immediately prior to the sale. Simply let your PSR know during your initial telephone conversation that you wish to order either a 1967 or 1968 Firebird as the foundation for your Firebird Xtreme.
